Five everyday tasks a beginner can hand to an AI assistant

Getting started · 1 November 2026 · 3 min read

The easiest way to learn AI is to use it on something real. You do not need a project, only a small task you already do each week.

Here are five that suit a complete beginner, and what to watch for with each.

Five places to start

  • Draft: ask for a first version of an email, message or short post, then edit it in your own voice.
  • Summarise: paste in a long article or notes and ask for the key points in five bullets.
  • Plan: describe your week or an event and ask for a simple schedule or checklist.
  • Learn: ask it to explain a topic in plain words, then to quiz you on what it just taught.
  • Brainstorm: ask for ten ideas, then ask it to pick the three most practical and say why.

Keep yourself in charge

Treat every answer as a draft. Check facts, names and numbers before you share or rely on them.

Do not paste in private information such as passwords, bank details or other people's personal data. If you would not post it publicly, think twice before giving it to an assistant.

Where a live class helps

Most people stall because they do not know what to ask or how to check an answer. In a live cohort a mentor sees your prompt, shows you what to change and answers your questions as you go.

Learn it live, with a mentor.
